What does this indicator measure?

The mid-point of all incomes, where there are an equal number of households above or below that median. Household median income includes the incomes of all persons in a household, which might contain one person or many persons.

Why is this indicator important?

People with higher levels of education and higher income have lower rates of many chronic diseases compared to those with less education and lower income levels (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
